About Refractive Surgery

Refractive solutions like LASIK can treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

LASIK can correct most degrees of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. During your consultation at Kremer Eye Center, advanced testing is performed using innovative 3D mapping technology. Paired with the expertise of our board-certified surgeons, the information gathered from these tests as well as lifestyle questions, including your expectations, Kremer Surgeons will determine if LASIK is the best option for you.

If you aren’t deemed a LASIK candidate, Kremer has vision correction alternatives available. Whether it’s PRK, Visian ICL™ (Implantable Contact Lens) or Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), our surgeons will work with you to find the right treatment option for you.

  • LASIK Step 1: We create your custom eye map

First we take custom measurements using WaveFront guided diagnostics. The iDESIGN scan produces a 3D image, or “blueprint” of your eye, detailing the entire visual pathway and how it processes light. The iDESiGN measures and captures imperfections not detected in conventional technology, greatly reducing the chance of glare or halos.

  • LASIK Step 2: We prepare your eye

Using The iFS Advanced Bladeless Laser, Kremer Surgeons create a micro-thin LASIK flap in seconds. The iFS results in the strongest, most secure LASIK flap possible, personalized for every patient to an exact diameter, depth, hinge location and shape. Flap creation using our iFS Advanced Bladeless Laser technology is clinically proven to make LASIK faster, safer and more precise than any other laser technology available.

  • LASIK Step 3: We deliver your personalized treatment

A second, ultra-precise, cool-beam laser is used to apply the Advanced CustomVue Treatment, guided by the digital information from your iDESIGN WaveScan, to reshape the cornea to the desired curvature. The Star S4 IR Laser has Activetrak Technology and iris registration, ensuring accurate placement of your Advanced CustomVue treatment. After your custom treatment, your surgeon will reposition the LASIK flap. At that point your LASIK procedure is complete. Most people sit up and immediately notice dramatically better vision.

  • Our Commitment to You

Kremer Eye Center is committed to helping you achieve and maintain the best vision possible. We stand behind our patients’ vision results with Kremer Eye Center’s Lifetime Commitment.* *Kremer Lifetime Commitment is not available with all procedures and plans. TREATMENT OPTIONS

When considering LASIK and vision correction procedures, there are options available. The right treatment plan will be customized based on the results of your comprehensive consultation and your surgeons recommendation. Kremer has 8 convenient locations in PA, NJ and DE.

  • LASIK

The first LASIK procedure in North America was performed at Kremer Eye Center in 1993. Today, LASIK can correct most degrees of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. There are a variety of ways LASIK can be performed, however at Kremer Eye Center, we exclusively perform the most advanced custom bladeless LASIK technology available driven by iDESIGN® technology. This is the only system to use topography integrated, wavefront-guided technology, which allows our doctors to take a precise measurement of the eye, inside and out, to deliver a LASIK procedure personalized to the individual patient. With this technology, Kremer is able to serve more patients than ever before, as it is FDA approved for people with myopia, hyperopia, mixed astigmatism and used for Monovision in presbyopic myopic patients.

  • Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) & Visian Toric ICL

Many of our nearsighted patients are correcting their vision with a phakic lens implant called the Visian ICL (implantable collamer lens) or the Visian Toric (ICL), the next generation of vision technology. Collamer is a technologically advanced lens material, that not only offers anti-reflectivity and UV protection, it’s also 100% compatible with your body’s chemistry, meaning it’ll be comfortable and you won’t feel it in your eye. The Visian ICL was originally a solution for people with high lens prescriptions (high myopia) and for those who lack sufficient corneal thickness to have LASIK, however its precision and consistently good results have made it an excellent alternative to LASIK for almost everyone. During the procedure, a special synthetic, biocompatible, removable lens is implanted in the eye just behind the pupil, redirecting light rays so they focus correctly on the retina. The Visian ICL lens does not replace the eye’s natural lens. Our surgeons have extensive experience with this type of procedure, having been involved in an FDA protocol for a similar lens beginning in 1998. Today, we perform more Visian procedures than any civilian group in the country.

  • PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)

PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a refractive surgery that reshapes the cornea with a laser so the light entering the eye is focused on the retina and produces clear images. During PRK surgery, the cornea’s outer layer (the epithelial layer) is removed entirely to expose the area, whereas in LASIK, a thin, hinged flap is created in the cornea. For both Advanced PRK and LASIK at Kremer, the same advanced wavefront guided measurements and technology are used to deliver your personalized treatment to correct the refractive error.
PRK surgery time is usually around five minutes per eye and typically results in 20/20 vision. PRK recovery time can vary from several days to several weeks.

  • Refractive Lens Exchange

Originally used for cataract surgery, a refractive lens exchange is now used for patients who are not candidates for LASIK or other refractive procedures. It corrects very high degrees of nearsightedness, astigmatism and farsightedness. The procedure involves dissolving the natural lens and replacing it with a lens implant of the correct power, which decreases or eliminates the need for glasses, contacts and possibly even reading glasses. Patients who have a refractive lens exchange will not need cataract surgery in the future.
