The most common cause of eyelid droop (ptosis) in adults is the separation of the levator muscle tendon from the eyelid. This that can occur due to aging, injury, or after other eye surgeries.
The lower eyelid turns inward and causes the skin and eyelashes to rub against the eye. The can result in redness, irritation, and decreased vision. We use surgery to restore the eyelid to its normal position and turn the eyelashes away from the eye.
The lower eyelid sags and turns out, resulting in over-exposure of the eye. This can be due to aging, injury, eyelid growths, or facial paralysis. Surgical repair involves repositioning the eyelid by tightening the supporting lid.
Growths on the eyelids and face may be benign or malignant. Malignant Growths are removed completely with surgery and Reconstruction of the eyelids is performed with plastic surgery.
Symptoms include chronic tearing, crusting, and discharge. The type of surgical repair depends on the age of the patient and location of the obstruction.
Excessive skin on the upper eyelids, drooping eyebrows, and bags above and beneath your eyes can interfere with vision. Eyelid reconstruction can be performed to correct your vision or improve your appearance.
